Hi everyone

As title, does anyone have any ideas as my wife doesn't like marzipan. We were thinking of an Orange flavoured equivalent but how would we make it. Any other ideas on flavourings??

Cheers

Pete.

Found from another forum.
Used the 1st one last year and worked out ok.

MOCK MARZIPAN
Ingredients:
2 ounces margarine
2 tablespoons water
2-3 teaspoons of vanilla essence
4 ounces sugar or golden syrup
4 ounces soya flour

Melt marg in water, add essence and sugar or syrup, then soya flour, mix all together. Turn on to a board and knead well. Roll out and use as required.

SEMOLINA MOCK MARZIPAN
You can make a nut-free marzipan following this recipe
Ingredients:
5 oz semolina,
5 oz icing sugar (sifted),
2 tsp custard powder,
1 egg white (lightly beaten),
2 tsp vanilla extract

Directions
Mix semolina, icing sugar and custard powder in bowl.

Gently mix in egg white and vanilla into your dry mix until you have a firm paste.

Also, it's only fruit cake that would bleed through the icing so you could use a clear jam or marmelade to stick the icing to the cake

I think its the almond flavour of marzipan she doesnt like so almond paste is probably a no go.

The mock marzipan recipes look like the kind of thing that you could add other flavours to, do you think the soya flour could be replaced with regular flour?

Can't you just peel the marzipan off her slice of Christmas cake?

Though personally, I'd change the wife before losing the marzipan smile
