Had an altercation with a lorry at the weekend where my car got badly scratched.

I informed my insurance on Monday saying the lorry was at fault etc...

The lorry driver didn't admit liability. My car is getting picked up today to have an inspection / quote for the repair.

How long does it take before the insurance companies make a decision on who was to blame?

If they don't find the lorry driver 100% at fault then I'll rather pay for the repair rather than claim.

Anything from a day to a year, it depends on how quickly he responds, how he responds and how the two insurance companies work/communicate etc.

....or more. Let your insurer sort the repair and if the lorry driver is not found to be fully at fault then your insurer should give the option to pay back the repair bill if you want to keep your NCB etc.
