I've got a RRS 3.6 TDV8 2007 and last week the parking sensors stopped working which has turned out to be the front left inner sensor gone. The orange light is flashing and there is a high pitched tone. The research I've done shows that parking sensor failure is common and that the causes include broken wires behind the front bumper and/or high pressure jet washers from over-enthusiastic washing.

My Bosch technician mate has used his diagnostic equipment which revealed:

B1B4201 Distance sensor, left front, inside open circuit/earth short.
B1B5711 Front distance sensor Power supply.
B1B5811 Rear distance sensor Power supply.

Does anyone have any ideas where the wire is likely to have broken/shorted?

The next stage is to remove the bumper which is a bit of hassle.

Has nobody else ever had problems with their parking sensors???

I figured if they have, they might be able to tell me approx. where the wires broke/shorted, etc.

parking sensors have their own bumper wiring harnesses, rear connector is under the nearside rear lamp, front is under the offside headlight. loom failure generally will be due to either chafed wires within the bumper, or water in the sensor connector will have corroded it, bumper removal is fairly simple front and rear, as is inspection/repair if needed, though u can replace the whole bumper loom for not very much at all. if u stick it in reverse with igntion on and handbrake off, get on ur knees u should hear a faint ticking noise from each sensor... no noise on a sensor indicates a problem with either that sensor or its part of the loom

hope that helps, in my experience its always damaged wiring or a sensor though a lot of people would change the loom without checking it along with the sensor indictaed in the fault code, ensuring the fault was covered lol...
