Can't get my lens off of macro, am I doing something daft?

Just used my Tamron lens on macro for the first time, now I can't switch it back to "normal".

Is there something obvious I'm missing before I take it back?

Used it to take a photo of this fella. Not that great, but he was safely secured by an inverted glass at the time!

- you may need to have it in the 180-300 range before switching back. (No idea, just a flyer)

They mentioned that in the shop, I think you have to have it in that range to switch to Macro. Once it's in then you can't get it out of that range anyway until you switch it back. Which I can't.

Aha! You were on the right lines!

The zoom has to be within the right (300-180) range to switch it into Macro. But the focus has to come out of the macro range before it'll switch back again.
