So i call up an OPC (shall remain nameless) to enquire about a GT2.

Says I : Is it the clubsort version?

Says useless sales monkey : Oh, don't think you can tell by looking at it. What is clubsport?

Then I asked him about PCCB.

Says monkey: Ooh, err, just got to deal with another client I'll come back to you on that.

Good to know you're dealing with people who know and have an interest in the product they're selling. Still, I'm only looking to spend £80k, suppose I'm expecting too much to have simple questions answered.

Silly me

Unfrigginbelievable.

Even if the guy has only been on the job 2 days he should know what a clubsport version entails as it is a current option on both the new GT3 and GT2.

Modern franchises particularly Porsche no longer want "enthusiasts" as sales staff, they much prefer non motor trade individuals that they can mould into people who ask closing questions at every opporunity, people who can deliver a ludicrously low PX valuation with a straight face, because they know no better, people who have no interest in the product per se' as it allows them to be cold and factual aka hard nosed.
These same people soon become blase' over costs or charges as it is always someone else's money. Do these "order takers" drive a Porsche not normally, too much tax liability, too many miles on a demo devalues it etc etc.
Porsche are counting on you to be the enthusiast, you to research the product and you to want to buy it, not them to need to sell it to you.
Oh and BTW it seems to be working, Porsche are selling loads & making bundles.

Now where did I put my anti synic pills ?

has he come bak to you yet?

Inverse principle - the more you spend the worse treatment you get.

Ive felt embarrassed at the amount of good serive and helpfulness Ive had from small shops, buying something a few pounds compared to bad srevice from something into many thousands.

They must get so many nobheads phoning asking silly questions and test pilots, tourists and tyre kickers it must be really difficult to maintain the Colgate smile and interest in the punter talking bolx (not you 911 nutter)

I think I'd last 'til 10am before being sacked for being rude (I might make it to midday with HenryF)

Don't get me wrong I don't feel sorry for them just couldn't do the job.

As somebody who did/does the job day in day out, I can only reiterate what Allan has said earlier......all the "proper" people have left the dealer network to work somewhere where they reward knowledge and skill, these dealers have cut salaries so the job is unnatractive to sucessful old school salesman.....the new breed cant value a p/ex and have to ask the "sales controller" if they can scratch their bums.

I could write a book (and may do so one day) with the stories I could tell about apathetic, ignorant, rude and just plain poor service I've had at the hands of sales people at major franchises over the years.

When I was relatively skint I used to think it had something to do with the car I'd turned up in. But now when I roll up in something costing the North side of £60,000, they still don't want to know.

Things aren't getting any better...called in at the new OPC in Sheffield last week in a £80k Merc, and apparently no sales person could be arsed to come and talk to me.(not the official version given by the receptionist, but that was the gist) Too busy maybe? Well it wasn't with customers because I was the only one in the place.

Surprised...not at all...Disappointed...yes.

Too damn right - just look at some recent purchases:

£3k motorbike - laid back charm; a lovely purchasing experience

Second-hand Audi - very pleasant; made to feel wanted

Nearly new Porsche - OPCs didn't give a flying one; went indepenent

Brand new £180k yacht - 9 month nightmare that is winding up in court

Went to my local Subaru dealer recently for a service (remain nameless so his boss doesnt get the nark on). And asked about upcoming service costs as I was planning a disposal.
Surprise 1, the service manager didnt ask if he could escort me round the show room.
Surprise 2. He asked what i was getting next (instead of doing 1)
Surprise 3 When i said a 993 he said great choice but advised that i get a look at some more unusual 964's
Surprise 4. He gave me contacts in 2 Porsche specialists and his card and told be to tell them he'd sent me!

edited to use Apostrophe correctly!

It really gets on my nips this craic with the OPC's treating people badly....acting as if they are doing you a favour by taking £ from you.

Though I must admit the OPC in Newcastle couldn't have treated me better, and have been super sorting out the warning light problems I have had with mine.

I read somewhere that 70% of Porkers from OPC's are bought on finance....so is the general poor behaviour of OPC's due to the fact that they don't feel they have to offer a 'deal' as such, as most people are buying on finance anyway? Has the haggling and dealing culture been eradicated from the thresholds of the silver glass palaces?

MOD.

Okay well I've seen the car then and it's not a Clubsport.

Does that get me a job with an OPC...or am I over-qualified?

Tell you what, Saturday before last we went to pick Emmas car back from the OPC in Silverstone after the accident repair. Sales team utterly beset by the filthiest bunch of tracksuit wearing, cheap fag smoking bunch of tyre kicking filth I've ever set eyes upon.

Seems its a morning out for this bunch of timewasters. You've got to feel sorry for the sales personnel, having to deal with this rubbish. You've also got to wonder why you get the third degree if you don't go in smartly dressed (well, I mean not sponsored by Sergio Taccini).

Poor sods.

classic! aka chav scum. Sod's law says they probably stepped out of a Vanquish after winning the lottery after setting aside of couple of quid from their smack allowance.
