Inner arches

Might seem like a strange thing to ask but i am going to paint mine.what paint is the best to use in these areas,i have started to sand em down to give a good key and will also fill any bits im not happy with so it will give a smooth finish.my sills are also painted black so would need a paint to touch up thes areas too.:DThanks in advance

if you search in the bodywork and detailing section on here there is a thread of guy who did his arches gloss black, i think it was a sagaris but very detailed and informative.

Good question Spongy, I need to do this as well,

I did see a thread some time ago on inner arch painting, was it not Graham Varley who has a Sagaris who did it previously. I'll have a search some time and see what I can find.

Good man,mine are chipped and worn where the stones have taken their toll,will look much better all painted up i think,glad im not the only fussy person on here;)

If anyone gets a definitive answer, please can they post, as mine are going to be done over Xmas, in fact i've bought a jack and 2 axle stands so the whole chassis is going to get the Spongy/LeeT350 treatment.

I would paint them with a good rubberised stonechip protection. They should last more than 5 minutes that way, and I think the original finish was something similar. A quick look on the bay of e's throws up this U-Pol stonechip which I think is meant to be quite decent stuff.

You mean drive itwhere there might be stones,heavens forebid man wash your mouth out.Yeah i know its a bit OTT,but when you see how far i will go with the chassis and other bits you will understand.Anal is my middle name sir cant help it,if a jobs worth doing .......dont ask me cos it will take ages and will always cost a fortune

thanks sir......mine looks ste now compared to that and i thought i had OCD.i love a motor that is that clean ....and mine will be soon.think i need more overalls paint time and brushes,this man has serious attention to detail......im jealous infact foof me if my wife saw this thread and knew my real intentions she would kick my chubby little arse.

No! Just no.

I'm too busy driving it to think about painting the inner arches. I only wash it when I have to as well, which is usually when it's going somewhere special. I mean look, this was this time last year.....

Tyre smoke.....if i am 100% honest i think your approach is probably the correct one to adopt,you use the car ,love it,and thats it.In my world i take the fun out of driving my cars cos they become tooooooooooo clean and pampered,but i just cant stop myself.I have never in 30 years managed to keep a car on the road for 12 months without taking the thing to bits,oh well we are all differant,you must admit though that motor does cause a slight sex wee;)

If you look closely at your tyres, especially if you do the occasional trackday you will likely see a rub line around the outside of the tyre. This is where it rubs on the outer arch when tucked up there during hard cornering.

A number of people tried to get round this. I've seen increased spring rates, thinned arches, and even tuscan fronts all round to keep the tyres narrow.

Probably better to thin and then decide on spring rates/tyres to improve your handling.

You Know what, after reading the link it seems like a right P.I.T.A of a job. I might just give them a rub back and paint but I can't see me spending hours on each inner arch.

yeah mine have been rubbing bud,do i trim the inner edge and reshape,or is there another method

Percieved wisdom seems to be to take a slitting saw/drill with abrsive cutter and slice them most of the way round, then push together and resin in place

Hmmn,will look at this in the morning to see what kind of a job this will be.have done a similiar thing on my last motor,and many years ago put big bubble arches on a mates mexico,what a foofin job that was.Not sure if i will use this one for track days yet,think if i was going to do any track days now i would purchase a track toy......ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sold one last year
