Background for canvas montage?

Hi Wise ones..

Just looking for a quick few ideas please

I'm doing a couple of photo montages onto canvas as Christmas presents - a selection of family shots from the last couple of years.

But I was wondering what to use as the background. Should I just go for black & put a white frame around each sub-image? Surely I can do better than that, but my mind's a blank! Some sort of generic background?

Why don't you use a background from one of the photos as a background? Plain colour is an easy option and can be effective but it can also be dull. And rather than using a simple white border, why don't you try drop shadow, bevel/emboss, etc?
