So I bought a car a couple of weeks ago and have covered around 800 miles in it so far. It's a 52 Scooby with almost 82k on the clock. Yesterday the clutch caught me out and I had to get recovery to take me to the local garage.

The mechanic got back to me and has said that he's going to have to do a bit of work on it and said something about the slave cylinder spring had not previously been fitted correctly.

The dealer I bought it from stated that the car had a 28 day warranty with the car but when I called up the guy said that clutches are classed as 'wear & tear' and therefore wouldn't be covered under the warranty.

Anyone know what the right course of action would be?
Should I persue the cars warranty and maybe talk to Trading Standards about it or should I just suck it up and deal with it?

Unless you have something in writing saying you have a 28 day warranty then its worth SFA. The car is covered under SOGA because it was sold by a dealer. Whether you can claim for the clutch and associative work on the warrantyor through SOGA is doubtful.

I would just get it fixed and enjoy the car - don't let this little issue taint the ownership, its not like the engine's given way. The seller hasn't done anything underhand here either by the sound of it so you're not being ripped off by him.

Thanks for the advice guys! Thought this would be the case but I wasn't certain.
As for the car, I'm loving it, albeit being a little cold, it's so much fun!

Wear and tear item and certainly very relevant for subarus as I'm lead to believe they are quite heavy on clutches.

I'd wouldn't expect anything out of the dealer.
