my m3 e46 02 plate is due an oil service now, have been quoted £225 from bmw.i want to keep the full bmw service record up, so is that about the right price ?

Sounds pretty good to me. My local indie do mine for about £180.

1. Shop around as they mostly price match your cheapest quote.
2. Buy your oil from Opie and supply it yourself as this is cheaper.
3. Make sure they've included the 4+ discount as some dealers try it on and quote without it.

Edit: I think you can shave a few quid by getting rid of the old oil yourself too...

I paid £100 and supplied my own oil, which was around £70 for 8 litres.

5.3 litres according to the book. Supply 6 litres and a bmw oil filter kit, about £70 plus a bit of labour.

Elms serviced mine the other month as above £169 inc vat.

Ask for Emma in service.

Buy oil from Opie - £85
Buy filter form BMW - £15
Buy BMW dealer Stamp from eBay - £5

In all seriousness though, if you are desperate for a BMW stamp (although on an '02 i would deem it a little pointless) buy the oil/filter yourself and then pay them the £125 labour for the job, which incidently takes about 20 minutes.
