Jaguar X Type misting up screen tip.
Discussion
A few weeks ago I was having trouble with the screen on my 2.0d 'X' Type misting up on cold danp mornings and refusing to clear using the 'demist' function on the A/C. After reading various forums I started to lean towards the A/C being low on gas, control valves deep under the dash failing, heater matrix leaking, and other expensive horror stories.
A car valeter friend of mine suggested giving the screen a good clean with Autoglym fast glass and a clean microfibre polishing cloth. 15 minutes and six quid later it's fixed. The screen clears in seconds and remains clear for the rest of the journey. Hope this helps anyone with the same problem.

Was it a creamy liquid or clear?
I have a clear one from turtlewax but I get reoccurring smears on the windscreen after a while.
The clear fluid, my valeter pal said ditch anything else, only use Autoglym Fast Glass. Another pal of mine who's son is a director of a top detailing company in Scotland and runs a 911 Turbo, two RS focuses (one standard and one RS500) told me the same tip, only Fast Glass.I have a clear one from turtlewax but I get reoccurring smears on the windscreen after a while.
thanks, mine keeps doing the same, will try it!
However, it's the only car i've owned that does that everyday however i set the climate control.
Also it's the first car i've oned that smelt of fag smoke when i got it, and still a little now - perhaps the ash from the fags puts a layer on the screen?
