I know there are threads on this elsewhere but here's my twa'penneth.

My Jag 2005 'X' Type 2.0d recently started playing up, cutting out whilst cruising, slight hesitation under acceleration and more than normal diesel knocking noise when warmed up.

I changed the camshaft sensor and all was sorted. It took literally 10 minutes and cost under £20 to do. The car runs much quieter and smoother, it doesn't cut out anymore, feels more responsive and the average mpg has gone from 38 to 45 over night!

If anyone still has the original black sensor change it out for the revised grey one asap. DO NOT GO TO JAGUAR for the new one. My local Jaguar dealer quoted almost £60, the Ford one (part number F1358343 QRTL522810K) fits (the Jaguar one actually has 'FORD' in the casting!!!) the Ford part cost me £17.50. If you know one end of a socket wrench from the other you will easily managed to save the labour cost too.

Update; The fuel consumption has improved by 13% sinc fitting the sensor, gone from 37mpg to over 42 mpg. I've changed nothing else.....

steve, yes it will, the only difference is literally the colour of the casing. It's a real simple job, all you will need is a 3/8" drive socket set (ratchet, short extension and an 8mm socket). The connector pop's off with a small flat blade screw driver. Should take no more that 10 minutes to swap.

Well I have replaced the Cam Sensor £23.00, as recommended the Ford one . As you said a 10 min job.
Fingers crossed all seems good, had a decent run and the cars not cut out. Still a little noisy on start up but I am putting that down to the freezing weather, as after the car has warmed up its fine

Thanks for the post

Pleasure Steve, it's one of the wonderful features of PH's, sharing problems, I hope it continues to run well. Keep an eye on your fuel consumption, you may get a pleasant surprise that pretty quickly pays back youe 23 quid, I sis.......

Have a look on ebay, you find the cross reference for parts in the item listings like this:

Hope that helps smile

Hi there thanks for the reply I got one from motoserve in the end but unfortunately it did not cure the cutting out problem so I'm guessing its going to be a lot more costly someone suggested the diesel pump frown
