2006 V8V, paid for 2 years aston warranty a year ago... it's gone in for service and failed it's MOT because of a frayed seatbelt which has only come on over the last year. Also one of the wiper arms has a patch about 1.5 inch wide of powdercoat that has peeled off and erroded. Dealer said it probably wouldn't be covered as it's wear and tear? I do about 4k a year and the car in now on 17k miles not not heavily used. The dealer also said that if it was in it's first 3 years of warranty they would have both been done no questions asked. They are about £500 EACH to get done!

Any ideas on where I stand with this? Spoke to the warranty company directly and they made it clear that they are not AM and as a 3rd party company they only cover mechanical failure. I bought the warranty direct from my dealer as a puka aston warranty but turns out they farm it out..

Any idea on the best way to play this?

thanks in advance.

Hi, setting aside the windscreen arm (as this probably isn't covered under corrosion guarantee), there is no way I would accept a fraying seatbelt as "not covered" it's a primary safety device that is not fit for purpose. I am sure someone on here had the same issue. 17k miles? I expect the leather still smells new!

car smells lovely!

i've emailed for a call back from aston customer service direct and the warranty company have emailed me an appeal form which i don;t think is worth much. they aren't interested and the manager who called me back was very very rude, not what you'd expect from aston.

my main issue is the seatbelt... it is genuinely faulty and i paid for a genuine aston warranty!

Had my drivers seatbelt replaced under the extended warranty. Had to phone the warranty company myself. They claimed seating wasn't covered. I pointed out it was main safety device in the car. They paid up.

My passenger seat is frayed, 6 months ago Aston couldn't explain it and I'm still waiting for a decision to be made about it. I hope I'll eventually get a new one somehow because we have no idea how it happened and I don't want to get to my first MOT in 10 months and have a fail because of it.

My thread about it with pictures is here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Mine has frayed where it goes through the aluminium return at the top.

It seems extended warranty is actually supplied by carcareplan.co.uk.... the manager there is sticking to wear and not failure.

That being the case it's possible it is wear and tear, but caused by a poorly finshed aluminium "trim" or some other catchy article (or mouse?) lurking in the crevice that the seatbelt passes through.

If you get nowhere with the warranty I'd head back to Aston directly.
Even though the vehicle is out of original warranty it stinks of being a defect with a long gestation period, in much the same way as the bubbling paint round the door handles.
People (including me) are getting 50-60% contribution from Aston for paint correction. That said we are original owner, so whether that affects the decision I can't say.
It might be that you can coerce them in a similar way for your seat belt.
Wiper arm. If it's not covered by warranty get them taken off and re-powder coated. I can't imagine that would cost too much. Granted it's not something you should have to do either. Again it might be worth appealing to Aston for a percentage. We got the support arm for one wing mirror also contributed towards. It doesn't seem to me that a wiper arm is any more or less wear and tear than the finish on a mirror support.

Thanks, some great points.

I use the car most days so would hope it not mice!

I agree that it is the parts around it not the actual belt that is at fault.

The wiper arm would be an easy one but it's the one attached to the motor not the 1 nut easy to get off one, I did have a look. I could even just touch in the area in black and it would take your eye away from it.

It really stinks... it is obviously an historic problem with many cars. The Aston service and the Aston warranty aren't cheap at all so I would have expected a better service all round.

My fraying seat belt was also covered under the AM warranty that came with the car supplied by a franchised dealer. Not sure why they approved my claim and not yours? As for your wiper arm, they should make a reasonable contribution to fix the defective finish. Good luck.

Regarding the wiper blade, it might be cheaper to buy a new one, particularly the driver's side (4G43-17526-DE), which is retained by one M8 nut. The pax side (94G43-17527-DE) is a bit more complicated, but could still cost a lot less than the quoted repair price.

The AM Extended Warranty isn't worth the paper it is not written on. You go to a franchised dealer thinking you are getting the best and then spend your time arguing the toss with the dealer over what is and isn't covered. I got a 30% contribution on bubbling of paint for an issue that they know is a manufacturing defect.

Suffice to say I am going warranty free at the end of this year.

its a known problem. The belt edge rubs on the leather restraining strap at the top of the seat. If its the dealership you bought the car from and have used for servicing then get the dealer principle involved.

the extended warranty is based on exclusions i.e. What is NOT covered. It lists the seats as being excluded it does not list the seatbelt. As I said before I did get mine replaced under warranty, but had to fight to get it done. Hopefully the dealer principle can help.

I had thousands of pounds (something around £4500) worth of work done under extended warranty. The issue of payment never came up - I said it was a warranty job and AML and the garage agreed.

You never see a poor warranty company.
