Make sure your engine bay insulation is in good shape too, if it's hot in the footwell.

Not that they weren't nasty hot there when new; they were.
But that is a (the?) major source of heat in the footwell.

Sorry, no suggestions for vents other than the usual TVR suppliers.

I think they are just one of those generic parts rather than made for a specific car.

If you google 'car heater vent' I think you'll find mainly 2 options, the Chim/Griff ones and a chrome bezel one that TVR used on later cars.

If you want a really cheap replacement one then I would look in yacht chandlers, not car shops. Almost all yachts from a certain period used these vents in their heating systems. There will probably be loads kicking about for a few pence.

If it still exists then Yacht Grot in Lymington would be worth a phone call to start with.

"Yacht Grot" ? Nautical pound shop ?

They were going to call it Sloop Poop but thought that sounded too classy.

ETA - Boat Scrote ? Canoe Poo ? Ship Skip ? Kayak Kak ?

On your style car (assuming 3" heater duct across rear of engine) thats a job I wouldn't even relish with the engine out.

Yes I have done it and even with access its a bugger to get the pipe off, then cutting out the sealant around the duct (engine bay with even the brake lines interfering + round the back - tight to scuttle) & when you've that they seem to be liberally araldited in as well!

In comparison even with the jiggle through the bodywork & upside down in the passenger footwell malarky the nearside connection to the heater box is a doddle! It really is the worst job I have carried out on my car, and I've done a lot of drastic things for fun. I would hope that since mine is a little earlier TVR might have improved the technique of attaching that vent, but its not something I'd like to investigate - once was enough.

The left side is easy ,just pulls out, not even sealed in.I may buy two(£10 each) and just try to refit the lauvers ..Or its just push a sock in .Got to admit that pipe behind the engine is a nightmare ,makes replaceing the fuel hoses very difficult.

Im only joking Jammy .did you have some Jameson Whisky last night or was it to hard to swllow.laugh
