Consultancy Rate Inflation?

Guys,

Two years ago I did a bit of consultancy work. I've been asked to do some more next year.

Simple question, by what (if any) percentage should I raise my rates by?

It's for design engineering, Offshore oil industry.

Could be a case of reducing them. I used to be quite nifty in a specialist area of IT that charged a premium a few years ago. It now pays a lot less as lots more people can do it

This is for highly specialised design work, it would take a few weeks at least for someone with no experience to get fully up to speed with the standards and requirements of the job.

It's only a bit of spending money. It will be a case of me stating an hourly rate on a take it or leave it basis. There's no way I'll take less than two years ago, just wondered what the trend was.

I am consult in O&G , two years ago we got 10% taken off and last year got about 4.5% back so might be roughly the same that you will need to ask for

Come contract renewal time i would expect around a 4.5% uplift , that's what the agencies seem to think anyway

We're in design, albeit BS engineering.

Our rates haven't changed since 2008.

Framework rates during that time have dropped from 2008 rates.
