Onscreen display from amp

I'm trying to pull up the onscreen display of a Denon AVC-A1SR. I dont run any video through the amp so have connected a cable to the monitor 1 output and run this to the AUX video input on the side of the TV. I have tested the TV input and this is working, however I cant pull up the onscreen display from the amp. I have no way of testing the amp output, (open to suggestions!), so I have to assume its the cable? Its only a cheapy that I found in the loft amongst all the junk cable I store up there, (phono plugs are yellow so I assume its a video cable). If I use any old cable would I get a result?

If not is there any other way to get into the amp menu? I need to map one of the optical inputs and the instructions say I need the onscreen setup.
