Not sure if this should be in S,P & L, feel free to move.

Having just sold one of our cars, we are now a single car family.
Both me and the girlfriend have full no claims discount, however only one of us can insure the car. Rather than one of us losing our NCB, can we alternate who insures the car year on year? Ie I insure it this year, she insures it next, then keep alternating?

The car is driven 50% by myself and 50% by the GF, so not ilegal before anyone mentions 'fronting'. Is this the only solution to keeping 2 lots of NCB alive? Any ideas welcome...

Just a gentle bump on this. Although buying an MX-5 would fix the problem, I reckon there must be cheaper ways around this.

Basically: 2 people, 1 car. How do both people keep their no claims bonus when only 1 person can be insured?

Have you got parents around and you could insure one of their cars?

Yup, your original suggestion is the way forward. Only have to swap every 2 yrs, as bonus lasts 2 yrs.

No particular reason why you can't both insure the car.

I thought a car could only be insured by one person? The other person would have to be a named driver.
Or are you talking about 2 seperate policies, which again I don't think you can do?

Two policies. Depends on the cost, be after two years you would (as a couple) have either 60% or 80% NCD.

I think the additional cost of 2 insurance policies would outweigh the benefit of keeping the NCB.

I think alternating is my best bet.

Yes, you are probably right. Depends on what the quotes are now, and what you may get in the future. A couple of hundred pounds over the next 3 years on a limited mileage classic policy (that gives NCD) could be recouped on a big premium in the future.
