I'm (I guess) fairly fortunate, still got a fairly safe job, mrs likewise. Which, realistically means a 15% reduction in take home over the last three years, and lots of uncertainty over the next year.
So my planned large capacity V8 had to become something sensible, while still retaining a bit of fun.

What about you?

I've had no pay rise for the past 4 years, and I've just bought a V8 boxedin

It was fairly cheap though, and I start a much better-paid job in the new year.

Besides, I face a 20 mile-a-day dual carriageway commute now instead of the 4 miles I'm used to, so clearly the V8 was an essential purchase.

What recession? We've been out of recession for some time.

Im currently changing car and my choice is based on fuel prices, not my personal finances.

Went from a £30 per year tax 1.4 diesel to a £260 per year tax 2.0 petrol.

And my average mpg dropped by about 30.

Its not recession its fuel prices thats the kicker, especially the price of diesel. I've actually got an all petrol fleet for the first time since 2003. I did choose a less powerful car for the cheaper VED though, slightly wish I'd been less tight fisted though...

I went from a 1.8T Audi to a 5.4 V8 AMG last month. Surprisingly not a massive difference in fuel consumption. At 70 the TT would do 36mpg, and the AMG does 32mpg. Its a different story when I put my foot down though biggrin

I've done something similar recently. Chopped in my 1.8T TT for a 5.2 V10 S6. Not one single regret.

Got a 2.5TDI (200tdi) defender and that drinks diesel.... a lot! So the old 944 Turbo which does about the same mpg but drinks petrol is coming out to play for the work slog.

Might v8 the defender - will still cost lots to run but it will sound a lot better!

I swapped the Cayenne 4.5 V8 for a Volvo V70 D5.nerd

..but then got bored and bought a 4.5 Cerbera as a weekend car. Does that count?

Recession is going great, thanks. Swapped from an SLK to a gallardo... If the economy gets any worse I'll be adding a 458 convertible or an aventador. All directly because of people spending money they don't have... Perfect for me.

Hmm, well I've got the same car I've had since before the recession and we've just upgraded the wife's car from a 1.2 Punto, to an Octavia VRS, so I suppose it hasn't affected us much. hehe

Economic woes just mean nice cars get cheaper. driving

Had the BM for two years, the Landy, with hideous RFL for a year. No plans to change for a while. Changing cars us very often a false economy anyway.
