There's no way he could really have seen what was coming...the road appeared clear as he pulled to the left and by the time he could see the truck, he was already along side.Personally I pretty much always react to avoid rather than just stamp on the brakes and focus on the back of the car in front. At least generally if you swerve and brake you have a chance of taking further avoiding action!
