I changed from Aviva to Direct Line for my car insurance recently, because we have our home and contents with them and one of my sons is also with them for his motor cover we get a good deal compared with the other companys, the only draw back is their admin department, absolututely useless! They're really quick to send out threatening letters despite me having already replied two weeks previously with the info they had previously requested.

Proof of no claims is 7 days with them and they are fussy about what docs they will accept.

They are fussy, but the letters they send out are often automatically generated even if they are already processing docs you sent in.

Just give them a call, they are usually very helpful on the phone.

Never had a problem, I actually thought their admin was really good.. Quick and always knew what you're talking about!

I only changed as the price went through the roof. Was literally twice as much as another quote and they weren't interested in getting close to it!

Never used them, always been stupidly expensive compared with others.

We used them for both our cars and home insurance until this year. We had a claim of £900 for storm damage on the home insurance which was handled very efficiently and quickly but when the renewals came in on all 3 policies they had gone up by about 75%. The home insurance alone was over £1000!

They wanted over a grand to insure me on my car, so haven't used them.

They used to be unmatchable on insurance for me.

Alfa GTV, fully comp, driving 7-8 years at the time with the no claims and points etc - £370 or thereabouts. Pretty happy been with them the whole time. Then my renewal came through at £970. Quite a reward for spending the year not crashing and not (getting caught) speeding. I know premiums were going up, but that hike had a certain eye popping effect.

Needless to say my business swiftly went elsewhere

Used them for years, i find them good value and when someone ran into the back of me they sorted the claim quickly at my choice of garage.

I've worked in Insurance claims (not for either of the above companies) Aviva claims are the most useless bunch of idiots you'll ever speak to.

Direct Line are mostly excellent, efficient, and easy to deal with. Their admin team are probably the low skilled end of the organisation but if you ever need to claim they are very good and id buy insurance with them if they had been competitive for me.
