Another car insurance quote moan
Discussion
A few months ago I received quotes in the region of £600 now they are £900, using the same search critera.
Car - 2001 BMW 330ci Sport Auto
Me - 23 years old, decent postcode for risk, 3 points in 2007, 5 years NCB, 6+years driving licence
I put my mother on the policy as it makes it cheaper
I have tried the comparison websites, and direct line, aviva, adrian flux... are there any others which are competitive which are not on price comparison sites.
I pay £1100 for my past years insurance, but was only paying £850 on my TT 225 at 20 - how times have changed
Any ideas?

Bite the bullet. If you've done the ringing around thing and the price comparison sites then you're stumped. One crumb of comfort is (acc to yesterday's Times) that after the recent price hikes the insurance companies are now back in the black and wanting to fight a bit harder to win people's business. Maybe next year's renewal price will be more realistic...
Good luck
Its actually £800 with a bit of tweaking, bite the bullet yeh thanks Good luck

I just hope it doesn't go up any more before the earliest renewal date
Premiums change on a day by day basis, so unless you're close to buying/insuring, then don't bother looking unless you're happy to factor in a ±50% correction.
I bought a car based on a previous month's quote. Unfortunately that quote expired about a week before I was actually able to buy & pickup the car, and when I went to the same company for the same car I was told the premium had doubled as they'd lost one of their panel of underwriters and were no longer competitive for my type of business.
Sometimes the brokers have to sell a certain amount of business to get the best rates/commissions from their underwriters, once they reach this target they can push the prices up as they're not going to make as much from the commissions and add their 'margin' back onto the premiums.

Quite interesting as when I'm 21, with a four-year licence, three years NCB, albeit no points, I get £800 quotes for a 330ci too
Add an aunt or someone else. For me, that still makes it cheaper, though you might be past the age where it helps. There's no particular reason why you shouldn't add anybody you like to the policy, one of my housemates discovered that another housemate's mum made his insurance considerably cheaper than his own dad did, so it was 'sorry, old man!'
