PH Blog: Ferrari 458 at the Sunday Service

It was cold, damned cold, but that didn't put Dan off

OK, so I was ready to take my Eunos along to Sunday Service this week. And then I got a better offer. Yes, I am that easily swayed.

Morning! Hampshire gets an early alarm call...

After a pretty dismal week of weather in the build up it was a relief to wake up to clear skies on Sunday, even if this did mean a pretty hearty frost. No matter, as it did for Riggers' trip last yearFerrari had kindly/wisely shod 'my' 458 with Sotto Zero cold weather tyres and, it seems, a supercar is better bet on icy roads than a Lexus. Just ask Garlick.

An early start in a Ferrari means an early start for everyone around you, my brother's new neighbours treated to an early morning V8 alarm call as I attempted to de-mist before the short run down the lanes to Goodwood where I intersected with aforementioned Lexus.

To be fair I was pretty impressed with the 458 on those roads. Selecting 'wet' on the manettino softened the throttle and gearchanges enough to keep things facing the right way and, bar the odd little slither here and there, the 458 felt planted enough to enjoy the drive down. Impressive, too, quite how much manpower Goodwood laid on to help with the smooth running of the event, even getting special PistonHeads AA signs made up for the run into the gate. Top work!

Proper AA signs - PH has made it!

I did have the dilemma of whether or not to clean it for its prime position on the grid but elected to leave the winter grime in place, not just for fear of creating an ice rink around it but also because a dirty Ferrari looks kinda cool. An approach obviously shared by the chap in the FF, though he appeared to have warmed to his task a bit too enthusiastically and driven through a farmyard to prove its 4x4 cred. And it was somewhat fragrant as a result.

Elsewhere in the car park you may have spotted the new PH Fleet Golf GTI Edition 35. Or perhaps not, given that it looks more like a Golf BlueMotion on its winter wheels.

Stay tuned for a full Sunday Service report and pics...

The yellow on black set that 458 off real nice, got a lot more attention than the all black one at the other end of the pit straight.

I also noted the cool look of your 458 and got a close up picture it (note the wing mirror shot), as seen in my pictures of the day http://www.flickr.com//photos/23652120@N02/sets/72...

I feel for the poor bloke who slid off the road in his Scooby when driving to the event.... Picture included in this set.

Nick.

I was following you on the way out of Goodwood after the event and I guess that was the PH Golf behind me.

A great morning out and a memorable drive home... thanks!

I can't see the 458 ever growing on me, even less of a chance when it's the colour of old custard. Whenever i see them, the rear view reminds me of this.....
