help a procrastinating fool - 911 or Spyder?
Discussion
Chaps,
I fear that I may have turned into a procrastinating fool over the last month! The amount of hours that I seem to have invested/wasted!! on the car search I'll certainly never get back!
It's decision time....
2006 997 C2S to scratch the 911 itch.....£30k, 30k miles, 2 owners, OPC car....base spec
2010 Spyder manual - £35k, 4k miles, 1 owner, OPC car, probably more reliable, cheaper to run, still quite far to go on the 'd' word curve....albeit will probably retain quite good value overall
2011 Spyder manual - £42k, new pre-reg, OPC car......just because, it's a new car (granted, there are cheaper ways to experience that once only new car itch!
surely the chin scratching has to end soon!!

911 scratch is what it is, some love 'em some loath 'em, it'll be for you to decide which camp you fall in to. but if you do love them, the general consensus is nothing else will do.
there is one thing i'm certain of though, if there's even the smallest trace of petrol in your veins you'll love the spyder.
i'd go for the used option, i know the new one is't that much more but it's pre-registered, it isn't "new"
new to me means selcting all the options you'd want, not some salesman. picking it up at the factory etc. & i wouldn't bother paying the extra just to be the first to drive it out of the showroom.

I fear it is difficult to help unless you bring the spec.s into play.
if they were 2 identically spec.ed car and looked the same, I would go for the used version.....can't believe these are now down to 35k... and I paid retail price for my PCCB equipped spyder

but i did get to spec to exactly the way I wanted.
i think sooner or later, people are going to wise up over the fact that it is a tremendous car to drive that will be quite unlike the new era cars that will be coming thru. All the more so for the spyder as it is rawer and you get a more intense hit
I believe the total number of UK cars will number 300 or so thus making it a rare car... how many 997 c2s are there?

C2S in a base spec is not a special car imo.
What options do the Spyders have and what colour are they?
Like has been said above, if you don't need the rear seats .....
Maybe not special if you compare it to a GT. or whatever but it's a great great car...and £30k...What options do the Spyders have and what colour are they?

Don't get me wrong I think the Spyder is a great car, but there's just something about 911's...right?

the specs of the cars are all over the place really....annoyingly so!
10/10 car(s) - there are actually 3 of these in the running. All sub 6k miles......all available for very similar money.
BUT....none have the ideal spec......compromises as always....
One is standard bar a short shift (has the desired bucket seats though), one has the desired buckets and sports chrono but slightly higher miles, the final one has almost the idea spec (sports chrono, sports exhaust, a few other bits) but has the standard heated sports seats...which, from what I can gather, defeats the weight saving object really!
The new/pre-reg cars are both well specced (PSE, Chrono, shifter, dials, other bits)....but, both again have the heavier seats and also Turbo II alloys (again, seems to miss the weight saving point).
Ideal spec really is a 10/60 with buckets, PSE and sports chrono.......something is going to have to give though!

short shift easy and cheap to retrofit ..The new/pre-reg cars are both well specced (PSE, Chrono, shifter, dials, other bits)....but, both again have the heavier seats and also Turbo II alloys (again, seems to miss the weight saving point).
bucket seats are expensive to retrofit.
sports seats and Turbo II alloys is like having fish and chips without the chips
I have not seen any 35k OPC spyders.
Also , check the specs, most list Sports exhaust, most have not got Sports exhaust lol.
I am looking for a change and as you have found out no right speced spyders for sale atm, indy or OPC.
when push comes to shove and you get the option list printed out, you found out what they have.
Indies are worse, all the ones for sale are high spec untill you dig deaper and of couse al the indy ones are just about to come out of warranty
which leaves you with a choice to make.
ie. 111 check and buy one off an OPC in 90 days, or go without.
I would pay 37k for the right OPC car with the 2 years warranty, but none are speced as I want.
