Anyone heard about this?

Seems in MOT test there will be a tick box for the testers to notify DVLA of any modifications/changes to the vehicle. Though they will not have to specify what changes, it will prompt the DVLA to check details of the V5C and to ask what changes have been made to the vehicle. ie, engine/gearbox/axles/bodywork mods etc.

This may well be the back door by which the DVLA and VOSA make a few quid by insisting on single vehicle inspections for vehicles that have seen changes.(Unless of course they allow an amnesty for details of the changes to be notified on the V5C, which apparently they allowed some 10 years ago.)

Not sure of the exact details, this came apparent via a sourse at DVLA via a friend of a friend, so can not verify. Just wondered if anyone else had heard or perhaps seen anything?

Hopefully this will be the end of the "still a 1.1 on the log book" cars for sale with 2.0 plus engines.

Like this for example...

But I don't understand how an MOT inspector would know. The obvious mods yes, but unless they are going to start checking engine numbers etc, some being inaccessible, how will they know if an engine has been changed like for like?

Common sence and a little machanical knowledge. Ah, see what you mean most M.O.T testers would be flumoxed to say the least.
