Drove through what looked like an innocent puddle this afternoon - turned out to be concealing the Grand Canyon. Rear wheel not looking so good (see attached).

Probably a silly question: is it fixable or is it a new wheel? It's a 19" Carrera Classic for a 987 Boxster. Also, is it the same wheel as fits the 997 of the same design?

I will obviously be contacting the council armed with photographs, measurements and dates, but won't be holding me breath waiting for them to cough up.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Sconzo

Ouch.
I think the offset is different for a 997 wheel rim. Your opc should be able to confirm though.

Have a geometry adjustment done while you're at it...

If it is a reasonably main road then it is worth a try with the council but not if it is a small side road - you have to in effect show they were negligent in their maintenance. Some councils have the ability to report this online - Kent does, for example. Hope this helps.

...and the wheels on a 997 are wider as the tyres are that much bigger.
Big redfaceuch: though. Replace.

Thanks gents. As I expected. Will get a new wheel on eBay - £325, new rear tyre required, front wheel needing refurbed and laser geometry check.

Merry Christmas Glasgow City Council.

Ouch! It's not going to be just a new wheel and one tyre (you're lucky I think - a lot of energy has gone into that rim)with that sort of damage and force you'll need £40 on full geometry too, sensible to get sensors and shocks checked eg PSM. Standard to get both rear tyres replaced at the same time - unless you fancy a bit of a nervy ride?

GCC will pay out for the wheel and make a contribution toward the tyre unless it was new and you can prove it with a recent receipt. Its a torturous process but get all the evidence, get quotes for the wheel, OPC etc measure and photograph the tyre tread and damage. Make the claim
and then wait for reimbursement, you'll deal with a settlement solicitor and probably get paid in spring/summer.

English Council rules, which are legally binding, state that unless they knew of the offending pothole, either through their own inspection regime or through a report from a member of the public, they are not liable as they didn't know it was there.

Moral of the story; report all potholes online in order to protect fellow motorists.

Alloy wheels can be safely repaired, but I would predict that the OP's wheel is perhaps beyond repair.

Perhaps but they will never be as good as a new wheel. Depends on damage as well.

Cheers for the advice. Not sharing your confidence about GCC Barry, but but can only try. Local Porsche specialist (George Morrison) is sorting the car for me and will deal with all the geo checks.

OPC are looking for £897.78 for a wheel. I fell off my chair. Does anyone have any ideas where I could source a 9.5x19 ET46 Carrera Classic rear wheel? eBay only has the 11x19 Classics for the 997.
