Well thats one way of avoiding warranty claims...

Renault has culled 10 models in an effort to improve its profitability and revamp its UK business model.

Darren Payne, Renault’s fleet and light commercial vehicle boss, told BusinessCar: “We will focus on four key products and remove from the range cars that are not profitable or don’t deliver ‘va va voom’ for our brand.”

As of February 2012, Renault will remove the following vehicles from its UK line-up: Wind, Modus, Grand Modus, Kangoo and Kangoo compact van, Laguna hatchback, Tourer and coupe, Espace and Grand Espace. The company said that these models represent less than 10% of the sales mix in the UK.

Renault claims that the move will make for a more sustainable future and make the company and its dealer network more profitable.

It also announced a new aftersales scheme called Renault 4+. For large fleet customers, it consists of a four-year, 100,000-mile warranty and four years’ roadside assistance.

Local fleet customers will also get four years’ free servicing and the scheme applies to cars, commercial vehicles and EVs.

Doesnt leave much car wiser does it, Im surprised the Laguna will be axed.

I would have thought it is a reasonably good seller, being a Mondeo equivalent

Even if Renault's cars have a certain reputation, I think it's a shame. I like product diversity, but when everybody else aspires to lease hiring a diesel Audi A3, what else can they do?

Quite a cull of models.
What does that leave them with, just the Clio and Megane and their variants?

I admit to not being a massive fan of Renaults (bought a brand new one once <shudder>), but those vehicles being axed are some of the best and most unique in their range.

How bizarre.

If they make those Twizzy things the price of a decent scooter I'd buy one.

Very suprised they will axe the Kangoo. Good little van. The trend seems to be for smaler more economical vans these days so an odd choice.

They do have a reputation (in the trade as well with customers) for appalling built quality. They seem to suffer stunningly expensive electronic and mechanical faults at very young ages and mileages. Not fun if you buy ( i.e finance up to the hilt) what should be a reliable couple of year old car from a car supermarket expecting to get three or four years out of it.Then get hit by a couple of grand in repairs a few months down the line. Our Kangoo kept going for 146k miles, but I know of lots that dont.

Must admit it has been ages since i saw a new reg Laguna or Espace -they were quite popular years back Recall Nissan ditched Laguna based Primera back in 2006.
Outside of Mondeo , Insignia, everyone buying VW Passats .And Galaxy seems to have taken Espace sales.

Why would you launch a mega fleet scheme and then withdraw the car fleet customers, sales rep, middle management etc would select: the Laguna? unless that scheme covers vans as well.

Well they may as well not bother, aside from RS models they are left with a mind-numbingly dull range.

That seems a drastic move. I don't think Renault are doing very well though, and they seem to have a huge range, so I guess this is where they evaluate their range.

I'm sure other brands would have been able to develop the Espace far better than Renault did. They simply didn't know how to keep up.

Surprised we don't have them yet. You see quite a few in France.
