Mr Steele's Wheels
Discussion
Can anyone help? In the November edition of Sprint (issue 431) the winner of "Picture this" was Robert Steele, with his excellent Chimaera L6 DCK. I'd like to ask Robert what the wheels are on his car - I think they look awesome and would like to look into getting some.
So Robert, if you happen to see this do please let me know - otherwise, if anyone else knows how I could get in touch with him (an email address or something) I'd be most grateful to be connected.
Thanks,
Peter

Robert, that's great - thanks. I think 17"s are the right diameter for the car - they look a bit more up to date than the original 15/16s, but not too outrageous. I don't think big rims with very skinny tyres suit 90's TVRs at all. Very nice overall effect - enhances the look of the whole car IMHO, but I've always been a fan of 5-spokers! Is your car running standard 4-stud hubs?
Cheers,
Peter

It's an absolutely personal thing I know...but to me I've never seen a Chimaera look better than when they've got the standard five spoke wheels on. (even the 5.0l seven spokes don't look as well to me)
I can never remember which is the Imola & which is the Estoril?

Imola.... 5 letters = 5 spoke
Estoril.... 7 letters = 7 spoke
Not seen an "after market" wheel in the same sort of style that looks better yet (imho)
Minilite.... 8 letters = you've guessed

2 Smokin Barrels - in a way I agree with you - Imolas and Estorils are both really nice wheels, but for me the rims are just too small on a sports car (particularly the 15" on the front) - the big fat tyres just look like they belong on a run of the mill tin-top. If I could get 17" Estorils (my personal preference) I wouldn't be looking elsewhere!

I have always been of two minds on this one.
My 5L was (unusually, though there are a few others), delivered from the factory with Imola wheels. And I did/do prefer them.
For quite some time, I had thought of bigger wheels and lower profiles for the same overall tyre dimensions.
What were quite low profile tyres in their day, had quickly become standard Passat estate tyres!
I have seen a couple of wheel/tyre 'upgrades' that have resulted in a higher ride height, and I couldn't live with that.
I prefer mine 20mm+ below 'standard'.
Yet, as Alex says, they originals look 'right' for the year and style of the car, but sometimes I just can't help thinking... it wouldn't look worse for having lower profile tyres.
Then again, there are no 17" Imolas (AFAIK), so it will almost certainly stay as is for now...

What size are those Minilites? I think a Chim would look good on Super lights with the deep dish Hmmmmm Estoril.... 7 letters = 7 spoke
