Drop in S2000 Values?
Discussion
Just wanted to get the thoughts of Honda S2000 owners regarding values - I have aspired to have one for a while now and regularly track the prices, and have noticed recently that there has been a significant drop in their value..
For so long they seemed to have bottomed out at £6k+ but now regularly coming up for £4k. Are there now some obvious issues arrising with older ones being reflected in their pricing? S2k owners any thoughts?

I wouldnt think that there is anything wrong with them mechanically, however no doubt the weather has something to do with the pricing and aso some examples may be coming up to major servicing which is not cheap, through a dealership nor a specialist.
As long as the engine has been properly maintained, the engine is good for 100k+ miles, diff is slightly weak though, but that is more reflective of usage rather than mileage.

Insurance costs are high. But other general running costs are very reasonable for a sports car.
You have to bear in mind that these 4k cars are 10yrs old and with 80-100k miles, considering it only cost 30k new it's not all that bad.
Early cars are pretty bombproof, it's all about that screaming engine so aslong as its had oil in it, so it's imperative that it got a decent service history. My '55 has 37k on the clock and a friend has 110k on his '52. Side by side there is hardly a difference, so If you get a good example you'll be laughing.
The s2000 forum is full of scaremongers who continually go on about suspension geo etc (problem with everything seizing up and needing replacement), however the majority of cars are fine or could have been sorted in the past, again as a buyer it's something to ask about.
At that age the roof may be a bit ropey aswell, they tend to split over the shoulders, you are looking at £600-£1000 to change the hood. But if you are just going to use it in the summer and garage it the rest of the time (or fit the hard top) this will make little difference.
Good luck, couldn't recommend them enough. Just be careful when really pushing on, they bite and there is no nanny electrics to catch you.
