'S' in bits ,,,,,, advice needed
Discussion
i bought an S1 last year in need of some work, but i am struggling for time to do it. Basically i have stripped the front and rear suspension, the rear arms were rotten in the usual places, so i had them repaired by a ex TVR lad, and then powder coated them, along with the fronts, i have bought new ball joints etc for the front, pads, discs everything. The engine has been removed and the rocker covers removed and shot blased , primed etc,the chassis is in good nick and has been hammerited, most of the body has been stripped for a new paint job. although it is 100% complete
What i would like to know is do you think it will be sellable in this situation, or will it have to be finished first, or should i sell it for bits? if so what bits are worth any money?
i wish i never started now!!

one was sold recently for about £1500
see link www.pistonheads.com/sales/detail.asp?i=18489&s=4
this seems to be an average price for unfinished projects

As far as selling the bits, you never shift all of it. I still have a pile of gear left over from breaking S1s, 2s and 3s
How about posting a list? I'm sure there are a few of us that could use the odd spare..
s2 doors (bare), bumper rubbers, S1 scruffy bonnet, gauges, s3 wheels, wheel arch panels, front suspension (no shocks), diffs, boot lid, propshaft, swirl pots, trailing arm, have put some bits on ebay

Just my 10 cents worth, but with so few S's left these days and their numbers ever decreasing, wouldn't it be a shame to see a complete one (with most of the nasty jobs done) destined to be broken up for spares. Or am I just being unrealistic ?
I agree with SOTONS2... Now all the hard work is done you can reap the rewards by finishing it off... it may be worth £1000-1500 in bits now, but finished it should be £4500-£5000 at least (quite a bit more if the interior is re-done too).
Don't sell off odds and sods here and there either as you'll then have an unfinished car with some "hard to find" bits missing, to sell or complete depending on what you decide to do with it.
Cheers
Matt.

What do you think then Phil.. £5500 with a good interior..? the only snag is the phobia some buyers have over the 2.8..
only pulling ya plonker mate after your suggestion of good S's for £3.80, 3 marbles, and the missing iranian footballer for their panini sticker album.
I would say its a bit optimistic. I think a good S1 can be had for £4500 these days. Of course, good can cover a broad range of conditions...
...yeah, but that sticker has still never been found !!
you could be right.... with a restored chassis, new brakes, suspension and other bits along the way its going to attract some attention though I would have thought.. especially with a brand new coat of paint (choose a good metallic blue/green). I would happily pay £5k for a 2.8 like that, afterall its going to look stunning.
Cheers,
Matt.

Well for having what is essentially a fully restored car with a new paint job it would certainly have a premium of £500 over a good condition but "used" example.
