Jerking in 5th gear

Hello there

I drive 2011 skoda octavia II FL 2.0 CR TDI equipped with 5 speed manual gear box. My car has done only 8000 miles, Past 10 days when I am driving in 5th gear maintaining 45 miles/hour the RPM is roghly between 1250-1350rpms the car starts vibrating followed by jerks which is felt in steering and under the seat( "grr - grr - grr - grr"). I have to switch gear down to 4th or accelerate to 50 miles/hour in fifth gear. What could possibly be wrong with my car, I have doubt on clutch or fly wheel. Please help me out.

I tried jerking in 5th gear once on a long boring night time drive from London to Aberdeen but I nearly lost control of the bloody car at 80 mph. Now I only do it at slow speeds and in the lower gears.

hmm. 1350 rpm in top gear - if you drive it along a lot at those sort of low revs, and have a Diesel Particulate Filter, I think that might be the culprit. Get it down to the dealer pronto though.

You're doing the engine a massive disservice by running it at those sort of speeds. Anything below about 1500rpm is really to be avoided on diesel engines as it will unnecessarily strain the dual-mass flywheel and shorten its life.

Keep the engine spinning freely at all times above 1500 - my Octy was in a 'sweet spot' from about 1700 to 2500.
