Hotel says jacket required for dinner?
Discussion
Surely the paying customer should be able to wear what they want within reason. There's no dress code at the Fat Duck and everyone was appropriately attired when I went, ie smart jeans, shirts, etc.
I do find the idea of someone that I'm paying telling me how to dress somewhat patronising. And in my experience, dress requirements are frequently ignored anyway.

If the hotel have said jacket is required for dinner, then a jacket is required for dinner. What's there to question?
If you're unhappy with the dress code I'm sure there are plenty of other establishments that will let you dress as you please.Soir said:
Replies are starting to get a bit harsh. I'm with the op here (only wear suits for business meetings and not for a meal at the weekend.
Most places are less pompous than some of these replies... smart jeans, shirt & shoes are fine.
Enjoy your meal!
A bit harsh? Seriously? A dress code which says jackets are required for dinner is surely self-explanatory isn't it? If there really is any sort of grey area then a quick call to the establishment in question will supply the resolution. This thread is pointless and the OP deserves everything he gets. Most places are less pompous than some of these replies... smart jeans, shirt & shoes are fine.

But still no need to be a bell end about it
