Hasn't happened with car insurance but SWMBO did a quote for home insurance via the confusing comparison site 3 months ago. Our current insurer was the cheapest on the list beating their own renewal quote by over £200, when she called them she was told by the guy on the phone they couldn't directly match the comparison site quote for an existing customer.

So there is something that makes the meerkats cheaper.
