Just seen this on another thread.

It's from a 2007 Nissan Murano. Do you know of a "wonkier" gear gate from an auto, past or present?

^ good shout.

However this photo is so glossy, it kind of hides how odd that is!

Weren't there also some old Mercs/Jags from years and years ago that had some odd arrangements?

Great thread (satisfies the geek in me!).

Wasn't there a Honda Accord of about 7yrs ago that had a mega wonky one?

The Hyundai Genesis seems to have a good go..

This Google search seems to indicate that Mahindra are quite capable of making something horrible too, and BMW win the award for most broken looking lever..

Not so much "wonky" I guess, but it's got a LOT of options on there for a single lever!
(Have I just trolled my own thread?! lol)

Trolling, yup!

On the lever front, I think I'd rather one lever with more options than two levers.. I think.

Holy crapola, this is a Mk4 Supra:

EDIT TO ADD: Bonus points for "use of colour" and also that little "tip" right at the bottom. It seems to serve no purpose, other than perhaps being a "resting place" before you try to struggle your way back up to the top again!

Anyone remember that weird Mercedes box which was an automated manual but had a refugular H pattern box and no clutch? I recall it in an A-Class that I once moved for someone, it was very weird. Does that count as a left-field suggestion of wonkiest auto gearstick gate?

Didn't renault do a clio with a clutchless system like this?

Ah perhaps Mercedes weren't the only ones then. (Could have been sold to other companies).

Off to do some googling...

At a guess, that "resting place" allows you to push the lever forward from 1 to 2 without accidentally ending up in neutral. It is nice to see Toyota has also arranged the slot so that you can't accidentally go from D to N. Too many automatic transmissions lack this refinement.
