What is it about BMW's, or rather the drivers of? Tootling along this afternoon, dual carriageway, slow lane, comfortable distance behind lorry, 55 mph. Well, I was working so no rush!

I glance in my mirror to see two BMW's approaching VERY fast, a black one in the fast lane being undertaken at speed by a silver one in the slow lane, and getting too close for comfort, fast.

We were approaching traffic lights, 200 yds ahead. Silver one in slow lane behind me, misses my offside rear corner by 4 inches ( being generous here) as he pulls out, think black one in fast lane backed off.

Silver Clown passes me so close (approx 1 ft) that how the door mirrors didn't collide I don't know, the blast of air as he passed at approx 50 mph over my speed nearly ripped my windows out.

Not content that he had already shown us what a Pratt he was. He then continued to drive on the bumper of the car in front of him when he could see plenty of traffic ahead, and he was going no-where fast.

Are BMW dealers now offering a free Lobotomy with every car? Why is it ALWAYS some Pratt in a BMW anyway? Do you need special qualifications to drive like a Pratt? When he narrowly missed me he must have been over the ton! No bloody wonder we have speed cameras! The crazy BRD.

It's just a pity I wasn't quick enough to get his reg. and post it on here for our BiB's "attention".

Its always a memorable event to see a BMW driven with courtesy. Once I even saw one driving in the first lane on a motorway.

“The Drivers Car”

Trouble is buying is one thing.
Being a driver is something else.

Yep! On the face of it, Nothing wrong with the car, but what on earth does it do to the drivers?

Maybe as there were two of them racing, they thought it was a "duel" dual carriageway, the Pratts.

Just glad he missed me though, it must have shaken him knowing how close he came to hitting me. I would have been spun round like a top had he made contact!

Hmmm ... we haven't had 'BMW Drivers are w*nkers' thread for a while ... bit too much to hope that we'd never see one again.

There are tossers in all types of car - I got cut up comprehensively by a old dear in a Kia this morning. So, while I agree these drivers were arseholes its not the car - they'd be arseholes in Audis, VWs hell even a Reliant Robin.

The Wiz (BMW driver and proud of it)!

Utter nonsense. They're popular cars that's all.

If we're going to be silly, perhaps I should question this talk of 'fast' and 'slow' lanes

Agree with the wiz!

Unfortunately people only tend to notice the bmw drivers! There are lots of other nutters around (for example someone I know with a 550bhp RS6 who would race schumacher if he found him!).

What I would say is on a motorway where for example, lane 3 is coned off there is always one who comes hurtling down lane 3 and pulls in last minute narrowly avoiding cones and pushing in (in my case he didn't make it and had a bodywork accessory (a cone!).

The old dears that cut people, in my experience, probably aren't aware they have done it!

I am inclined to agree with Ted on this one, tossers drive a variety of makes, perhaps they are just more noticeable if they happen to be in a BMW.
never around when you need one.

Every time I see one of these people, I die a little more. They are bad for the reputation of good BMW drivers. They are also usually in older or lower powered models.

At the same time, this whole "BMW drivers are w@nkers" thing is bloody boring. They sell a lot of cars, so inevitably, many of them are bought by tossers. I also see plenty of tossers in ten year old Chimaeras who enjoy revving them in residential streets, but I don't come on here saying all TVR dirvers are w@nkers, because they are not.

And for the record, I use all lanes on the motorway, but I could spend more time in the inside lane and less time in the outside lane if 98% of the other drivers in this country learned some lane discipline.

They surely do. But last Sunday I was treated to another display of BMW driving brilliance...

Bloke in a Z4 is piling up the motorway. (M4 heading East) I see him behind me. I'm in lane 3 queueing to go by a steady queue in lanes 1 and 2. Z4 man simply cannot wait his turn. Tailgating and undertaking he slowly but surely makes his way up the queues by risky manouvers, inconsiderate pushing and shoving that was terrifying to watch. "Tosser" I say to myself - but ensure he gets past me with minimum fuss as I'd rather have him where I can see him and avoid him when the inevitable happens...

So after this I leave the motorway. Hungerford junction on the M4. I'm going to head north to use some lovely B roads. As I leave an Aston passes me in the right hand lane.

So as the Aston and I get to the bottom of the slip (two lanes) and there's the BMW. STOPPED. In the middle of the road positioned so as to join the roundabout but partially blocking the right lane and totally blocking the left and lane.

And he'd putting his roof up!

Aston squeezes by him onto the roundabout and I wait my turn to drive around him and then turn left to go north. AS I AM PULLING AROUND HIM HE STARTS TO MOVE OFF! Then finally sees sense and waits for me to complete my manouver.

This guy would have been a tool in any car. But as the GLW commented. "The stereotype exists because sometimes its TRUE!"

All I can say is...Enjoy yer smashing new car, mate. While it lasts.

I think the use of the word "slow" was ironic in this case!

Lane 1 being the fast lane and 3 being the slow one on the M3 every rush hour.

due to all the BMW drivers in the third lane!

BMW theory: Its not true anyway, just this morning I had similar scenarios with a new mini

There is recall on all BMW's issued today:
BMW HQ said:

BMW is recalling all of its current models due to a range-wide failure of the turn indicators (left and right) models are being recalled to have a dashboard sign that says "use your indicators" which should rectify the problem
Your statatory rights are not effected.

Cut out this special offer

YEP PLEASE, can you repair my apparently broken indicators, so that other road users can see where Im going for a change. Perhaps I might even be able to give them a bit of warning before I pull out in front of them at a busy junction in my flashy 5 series company vehicle or when I change lanes to undertake on the motorway hard shoulder.

Yes.

Plus another point:

this is a good example of drivers travelling at a speed which would probably be OK in other circumstances.

Yet another case of bad driving / bad driver behaviour where a speed camera would not be able to show discrimination.

Ah stop whinging and take the stereotypes...! Rover drivers still have to live with the flat-capper images, even though noways they're half decent. Nissan Micra drivers are still regarded as granny-numpties over the hill. So i think its only fair Beemer drivers are still regarded as arrogant igiots!

Weren't doing a lot for the relations, though were they?

The sneak in me would have found the local beemer garage and seen if they had a black and silver one in for any work that day... Fair number of incidents regarding fords being driven in that manner, around the area of the garage i used to work. Not i might add by me, as i had respect for other peoples cars... If anyone on here had their escort RS2000 serviced in Bedford back in 1998 thought, you might like to hear what happened to your car...!
