how tall is too tall
Discussion
I just saw the sad but cool video, V8smiths top dog shoot. Firstly, im sorry you lost to a porker mate, I agree its down to the judges. We all know your car is the better in every respect, despite the tall chap saying there wasnt enough room for him.
But... how tall is too tall? Im 6 foot 1 and worried that there wont be room enough in the V8S for me.

I'm 6 foot 1, and with longback/shorter legs, and I fit in an S3.
The only reason tall guy couldn't fit into the V8S was coz he had the dirty great roll bar in it. (still a poor reason to choose the porker - just because YOU don't fit, doesn't mean you judge the other way for people who do!)
The roll bar looks cool, but let's face it, is unlikely to be needed off the track (IMHO!). If Clappy's V8S has the roll bar, you can always take it out (they're not standard equipment) and you will fit in it then.
If the V8 doesn't work out, and you look at V6s - you will have to go S3/S4 - S1/S2 doors 4" shorter, and you'll never get in/out @ 6'1"!!

Claire's S is entirely different to my S3. Not only are the doors shorter but even when in the car the interior is shorter too. which is very very weird as I have never read or heard of that before. I put the seat right back and cant get my legs each side of the steering wheel so I have to drive with my knees each side and my hands at the very top of the wheel - ie i cant drive it
The shorter interior then leads to a longer boot than mine had - work that out! the roof panels could only be put in the boot of mine in a certain fashion but they pretty much fit any which way in Claire's. odd.
I'm about 6'1" and have an S1.5 which has the shorter doors and I fit no problem at all.
Also, I have a double length garage rather than double width and can still get out of an open door rather than having to do a Dukes of Hazzard and climb over the top.
A V8S will not be a problem unless you are a man mountain.

What DID M@H do to that car...?

My V8S also has the rollbar fitted. It does make a small amount of differnece to the range of seat settings, in that it will not slide back to the furthest 'notch'. I think it may also stop the seat reclining as far back as it would without. This does not affect me, at 5'11" I have no problem achieving my ideal driving position.
When I first got the car I considered removing the rollbar, but everyone I have spoken to says it makes a lot of difference to the 'stiffness' of the car as it mounts through the floor onto the chassis members.
If you think it could be a problem, get in some a try them. You may find that it is not an issue.

UkBob, the judge on Top Dog was 6' 5" for a start and if I didnt have the roll bar I am sure he would have fit in, so dont worry! RichardR is over 6' 3" IIRC and he gets in an S3 no bother. But as mentioned try to buy an S3 onwards, with your budget this is what you should buy anyway.

Mike

Praps, being Leiutennant Lanky himself, he felt life had cheated him, and he takes every opportunity he gets to do silly things like voted for porkers... I did see a pic of the extra 2 inches of "getting in space" on the S3 onwards, and wouldnt buy anything else.
Good news chaps, the gf now wants to sell her Tigra, and buy an S3. (I havnt even got my S yet!) This will probably mean we will see less of each other if she does, as we will never ride together again in the same car, but at least I'll be able to keep an eye on her... in my rear view mirror

ooooh dangerous. All I will say is make sure you do a driveride or similar before she does or you may be surprised at how narrow the difference is between the V6 and the V8.

Indeed... at our 1st lotus day at the end of it I was only 5 seconds behind Mike and his V8s over a twisty 1 minute course, and actually quicker than pstruck was in his V8s too.
