Are the rear uprights handed?
Discussion
Hi,
I searched the archives, re-read the build manual and build sites but there is no mention whether the rear uprights are left/right handed. The fronts (hubs) were marked from the factory but the rears appeared not to have any markings at all and to all intents are identical right down to the axle bolts.
Anyone know if this assumption is correct?
Thanks

Can somebody look at there uprights and let me know which side of the car the left hand thread uprights goes on?
Another question when you UK guys say right hand side of the car, what’s your reference point, sitting in the car like you where driving or standing in front of the car looking towards the back. I remember reading some parts of the build manual and it made references to US cars being right hand drive.

I've always worked on the basis that if the car is 'right hand drive' then your reference point must come from sitting in the car facing forward, i.e the driver is on the right when looking this way (in a UK car).
My car goes off for body prefit next weekend so I'll soon know if I got it wrong

If you sit in the car face forward then the left hand threads go on your right hand side of the car.
I think the most logical explanation was from BigAl1 - "forward axle rotation tightening the hub nuts".
However since the nuts obscure the threads, I resorted to a little sleuthing around build sites and noticed that the left hand side rears (drivers side in a North American car) all had a little green circle at the visible inner thread end of the nut. The right hand side (passenger side in a North American car)does not have this colourful circle. so in summary:
The upright with the green circled nut is installed on the left hand side (it has the left hand counterclockwise thread)
The upright with the plain nut therefore goes on the right hand side.
Hope this is a little clearer than mud.
