Lambo winner to Lambo loser

'Joe Schmo to Lambo' - what could possibly go wrong?

Guess the ending: small-town truck driver wins a Lamborghini Murcielago in a competition and... If you said "he crashed it on the same day" you'd be right.

David Dopp from Santaquin, Utah won the Lambo - an LP640 roadster - after entering a 'Joe Schmo to Lambo' competition held by a local supermarket. Six hours later he'd spun it into field, crunching the carbon fibre body in several places.

No, it won't polish out
No, it won't polish out
Poor old Dopp told news channel KSL, "We were coming up a hill, going around a corner; and as soon as we came up the hill, we either hit some black ice or loose gravel or something, and all of a sudden we just started spinning."

He told reporters he'd picked up on a Saturday and spent the day giving rides to friends and family. But sooner or later you could just guess that 640hp was going to catch him out, even with the safety net of ESC and four-wheel drive.

"We ended up in a field, and I back-ended a couple of fence posts," he said. No word on what he plans to do with it now, but after a paying off the ruinous carbon fibre repair bill, we reckon you'll see this Verde Ithaca coloured beauty in the classifieds a few months from now.

Ouch!!

For some reason I'd always assumed the Murcielago had metal body panels rather than carbon.

There is more to this story – apparently the guy was faced with a $64,000 tax bill for “winning” the $200,000 Lambo – he was fully insured when he crashed it and may be receiving the full value of the car as a write off.

Edit : vescaegg, you beat me to it by 30seconds! smile

This!

Offer him $25,000 to take it away. Tard would probably be happy with that!

If you were going to do an insurance job on a car, would you really choose to do it that way? Surely there are less risky ways?

Yep, make Tesco's Clubcard points look p!55 poor.

Did anyone think about giving him a few lessons or track time driving a vehicle like this first?

Surely that won't write off the car? You need to do a lot more damage, I'd have thought.

Interesting about the prize though - as great as it seems, there's not many people that could afford to own, run, tax, insure etc such a car even if given it free, so looking for a "Joe Schmo" they at least found him!

I would imagine that some insurance and dollars for a few tanks for fuel would come with the prize?

I'm guessing but was his plan to run for a month and then sell it?

You'd think so, as doesn't look too bad.
