Hello all,
Today I disconnected the battery of the vehicle to take a look at a separate horn issue. It was disconnected for around two hours. When I reconnected the battery there was a deafening beep. This was not the typical horn beep that you hear when a compartment etc. is left open. It has a much higher pitch, and sounded like it came from the nearside scuttle. Now a few things are noticeable-

When I lock the vehicle, I get two high pitched beeps (no horn) The red light on the centre of the dash flashes from then.

When I unlock the vehicle, after 30 seconds or so there is a single high pitched beep and the vehicle locks and arms its alarm- I am aware this might have reset the factory auto door locking, which I am guessing was switched off previously

Initially I disconnected the battery without the key in the ignition. I then repeated the process with the key in the ignition on position. This made no difference.

Now I was under the impression all alarm noise is generated by the horn, is this true? This high pitched noise is not only highly irritating, but also concerning that it has only appeared after disconnecting the battery.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, the noise from alarm system is generated by the single horn unit in the o/s scuttle area and the siren with battery backup located in n/s scuttle.

When you disconnected battery with ignition off did alarm go off? It should sound if ignition not turned on and battery disconnected. It maybe telling you that the battery backup in the siren is shot... Seen this before.

Ah okay, the alarm didn't go off the first time I disconnected it, so that would make sense. I will leave it for a few days and see if the state of the backup battery changes, thanks!
