Hi All

I'm a second time poster long time reader, only joined yesterday but something happen last night that I thought it was my duty to post about.

My brother in law was sat in last night doing some work on his laptop when 4 scrotes in balaclavas wielding baseball bats and crowbars kicked in his front door and demanded the keys to his prized Cupra R.

Being of sane mind he told them where the keys were, he was more worried about the two young kids and wife (who luckily had just gone upstairs to bed), and was left unscathed.

I'm furious that they can get away with this - it was still light aroud ten last night when it happened. The police turned up and said that there had been another Cupra R stolen this week a few miles away so it appears they're on someones shopping list.

From what I read in the media these thefts are becoming more and more common place but you don't hear of anyone getting caught for the crimes or if they are a lenient sentence is applied. If the same scrotes went into a bank and took 20k the chances are they would get caught and 10 years. He's now saying that he wants to get a reliable runabout in case the same thing happens again.

I'd better stop now before this turns into a full scale rant instead of a reminder to every owner of a nice car to be on their guard and a warning if you know anyone in the Manchester area with a Seat Leon Cupra R.

Regards
Col

There was a TV docummentary on a gang doing this in Birmingham. Because noone faced up to them they got more and more confident and violent. The police waited until they could get enough evidence on them (rather than just one car theft) and eventually caught them (but not in the way intended).

From the documentary and the posts I have read on PH it does appear that this is the new way for car theft.
They dont care what car either. Even a rare TVR was stolen.
How will they ever sell that on?

if they continue to face little opposition (and I am not saying I would be so brave to refuse them the keys) then maybe its now just easy for them to steal a nice car to joyride rather than always necessarily picking certain cars to sell on easily?

I think a lot of them get put in containers and sent abroad - there was a programme about it a few weeks ago. I think it was Nigeria or somewhere - they had a police helicopter that was picking up car trackers.

shnozz, I think you are correct. That is what they were doing with a lot of the cars in the documentary. Stealing a selection of cars and then racing each other through the night.

Edited: Of course more speed cameras and less traf pol would prevent this.

It just shows what a massive problem there is with drugs these days......they must have been out of thier heads to mistake a Seat for a valueable sportscar....

Joking aside, it's happening all over the country, in the next village the other week a gang nicked four cars in one night including a Porker two Ferraris and an Impreza. At least the crimbos have some taste round these parts!

Short of putting a bomb in the car how do stop them? At least your Brother in law had the sense to hand the keys over, especially with his family in danger.

We'd all like to think we might have a go but against 4 blokes there's not much anyone could do without a gun.

Yep. I take my keys to bed every night but no-one can fight off four blokes with baseball bats, not even Mungo.

Perhaps its safer to just leave em downstairs?
I dunno. I opposed this arguement a little while ago.

Theyd have trouble at mine though. Theyd have to move 2 other cars out of my narrow drive and then try finding somewhere to put them in the street that didnt block their path out!. By the time they had done it everyone in the neighbourhood would be awake to see what the fuss was about and called the local bib (or in my case, mungo!)

I saw that one too. Totally amazed at the police's lack of will to do anything about it. Surely the insurance company's must be loosing out big time?

Very sorry to hear about your brother's car.

Well, youre probably safe then. No sane thief is going to attempt to steal your car and risk being confronted by a uniformed 4ft virgin with a point to prove.....

And the trauma he has gone through.
He is probably hoping he doesnt get the car back. it will be worth less anyway.

This may be a reason they are getting away with it more?

There was a TVR Wedge owner thats wife was beaten in their own home for the car keys. I think they sought counselling. They were recommend it.
Might be worth having a search and getting in touch.

I also heard about another Tiv that was stolen along with the owners new puppy.

Thats just sick and unneccesary.

one of the tracking companies do a device that will remotely shut down the car -after it's been started and driven away from where you are...

Theres some alarms that do that but I bet they will trash the car. Burning it most likely.

I think the concern would then be of them returning at a later date!

Trouble is,when we chase these nuttas (and bad drivers) and they crash....we are help resposible.

Sadly its a no win situation.
