BMW M5 Olympic skidding

A bit of a ho-ho-hoon action from BMW to, er, celebrate the Olympics (no, nor us)

BMW had a bit of a pre-Olympics shindig last week to preview its London 2012 involvement, giving thanks for the fact it had been 'chosen' to be the official vehicle supplier for the games.

And off the back of this or, perhaps a bit too much of the complimentary champagne, a 'precision driver' by the name of Wolfgang was sent off to Pendine Sands in Wales in an M5 to, erm, do donunts "help us [BMW that is] support the BMW London 2012 Performance Team athletes."

No, not quite sure how the two are related but it looks like a lot of fun. Coincidentally enough we've got an M5 booked in January. And were thinking of heading off to Wales. Inspired? Could be. Though the temptation to draw a more, ah, Viz-inspired bit of sand art will be hard to resist... And if anyone asks we're 'precision drivers', OK?

The last bit of that doesn't look very "precision" to me. In fact it looks very expensive...

There was me expecting them to just draw the olympic rings wink

That little design is quite nice at the end! Not sure if it's just that clip not being very flattering, but the car sounds pretty flat though doesn't it.. really not as sonorous as the outgoing V10, or even the old E39 M5's V8! frown

Random.

I think they've been watching too many re-runs of Top Gear on Dave (jag, vxr8 etc..)

All that salty water, all those crevices to start the rotting process. Oh well; it ain't mine, and i'm not buying one. Any car that plays fake engine noises into the cabin gets a demerit in my book.

Bet its bloody comfy for a speed wagon though smile

Some people have the best jobs in the World. "What are you doing at work today dear?"

"Oh nothing much, just blasting an M5 along a beach in Wales"

It sounds crap, thats why you always supercharge a V8, turbos alter the exhaust pulses and it sounds crap, takes away half the point of a V8, certainly not "free power" as some people say, its aurally too expensive.

The best bit of that video is the snowflake button youtube has added and you can play with the snow, way ore interesting than that dull sounding car.

Saw them filming this, as we were staying with friends at Pendine in the last week of October. They were there for two days hooning, and were tagteaming with two cars. One on the beach while the other was being jetwashed in the car park.
They are actually blue M5's with a white vinyl wrap, so beware of the precision driven machines if you're in the market for a blue one of these!! : )

I did the same in my old scooby back in 2003, donuts etc on calm, windless day on Pendine Sands, as well as towing my mate on his kiteboard at 85mph yikes
I seem to recall it caused a ruccus on a kiteboarding forum, boring gits!
