Hi all,

I'm new to the "modified" scene so bear with me. I am looking at a VRs which has been remapped to 170hp. This seems to be quite a fun car to me. The question would be has anyone else had quotes for a remap of this sort? Did it make a drastic difference? I am 37, one non-fault claim in 2007, no points since passing in 1991.

Any thoughts?

The thing my insurers were interested in when I modded my car is the % of increase over standard, what power is the Vrs as standard?

Great car with a remap! I doubt the insurance will rise a lot.

128bhp standard btw, so thats a pretty big increase (as these engines map very very well)

I desperately want it. It's at a specialist in the Midlands. Genuine 44k miles. Just had water pump, battery, timing belt and all brakes replaced. Properly remapped with all the paperwork backing it up. Just the question of insurance and getting it from Brum to Sheffield.

Easy enough to get the train down to Birmingham, and get the seller to meet you at New Street station or something?

I can't imagine a remap would hike the price drastically, especially given your age. Might be worth just ringing a few insurers to get some indicative quotes!

Out of interest what price? A friend of mine is picking one up tonight, 64k miles 55 plate for £2950. (He is a bit of a billy bullstter and he is getting discount on the price)

My housemate has one and when he checked with his insurance, they said there was no additional cost. I think that was Admiral.

6.5k. Sounds very much like billy bullst unless it's knackered.

Agreed, his price is very low. A friend bought a Ibiza FR on a 54 with 51k on the clock for £4100 about 6months ago though, genuine and in good condition (private sale).

So for 6.5k I'd expect one hell of a car!

6.5k sounds very expensive. My housemate's one was 6k and it had 14000 genuine miles on it. He's had it for 2 months.

On a VW engine, I'd really only go for Revo for "off the shelf" remaps!

The same guys who, so I reliably heard, attempted to remap someone's Alfa but left them stranded with a toasted ECU and huge bill from Alfa to rectify coffee
They do Alfa's and Fiat too.
I cant comment on that as i know nothiong about it. all i can say is the remap on my VRS was fantastic. MPG went up on a run, down around town and power increase was significant.

The Alfa probably broke down because its an Alfalaugh
