Anyone any idea whether these are individually coded, or whether it's just a generic 1234 code? My brother's battery died and now he's replaced it the standard radio wants a code. He's had a look in the service book but not found anything useful.

Alternatively, if anyone knows a way to bypass it please let me know (via email if it's particularly dodgy biggrin)

Cheers beer

From what I've read remove radio & the code may be written on the top of it.

its usualy in the manual for the radio.
You can go to the dealers with photo id and the logbook and they will look up the code on the computer and charge you a tenner!

If the original owner didn't write it in the service book, then you can ring Ford and they will tell you (or you might have to go and show them with the log book to prove it's yours), but Ford will know yes

Remove the radio from the dash and find the serial number

Using this you can search the web for a natty wee program that spits out the code once you stick in the serial number

Ask nicely on the MSE motoring forum, you'll need to serial number off the top of the unit (starts with 'M').

Below is a link to a thread on Moneysavingexpert which may help if you know the serial number of the radio.

I think he may have found that already, but removing the radio might be beyond his skills unless it requires a large hammer.

Getting the standard radio out of a mk1.5 Focus is very easy. I got mine out to install an iPod connector with a metal coat hanger.

I used to work with someone who bought a Fiesta, she found out the radio didn't work.
So she joined a couple of Ford forums to try & find the code.
This didn't help her.

What did solve the problem was when she pushed the button instead of turning it!

I don't doubt you, but while he did a very good job of rebuilding my barn he doesn't really do cars.

I needed the radio code for my Civic Type R - in Hondas the radio code is allegedly on the side face of the inside of the glovebox on a sticker, but on mine it was not. I just phoned a Honda dealership, gave them my reg and they got the code for me, no fuss.

Not sure why Civic Type Rs even need the faff, because the stereo unit on a CTR would not fit into any other car, nor could it be stolen without taking the entire centre console with it, so it's not like the radio code would even deter a thief!
