Laptop Stragedy Games

Kids are now sleeping ever so slightly better meaning I'm ready to get back into a decent strategy game.

Used to love Company of Heroes, Age of Empires and Cossacks. Anybody recommend a decent modern version of these games. Have looked at Age 3 but not sure if it compares well to the previous versions.

What about the total war series?

I use to run medieval and rome on an ancient laptop.

medieval2 was good, but I never tried it on a laptop.

Try Dawn of War - the 1st series runs on the Company of Heroes engine, so should be familiar and is very, very good (Dawn of War, Winter Assault, Dark Crusade and Soulstorm).

If your computer can handle it, the Dawn of War 2 series is excellent (but different).

Starcraft 2? If you turn the settings down it should work fine.

My other suggestion would be Dawn of War but not sure the second one would run with great success.

Slightly different but still very good, Civilisation?

Id recommend Medieval Total War 2 for some warfare and then Tropico 3/4 if you fancy being the dictator of a banana republic and building an empire!

Both would run easily on your laptop!

I used to have no end of fun on warzone 2100. The game is now open source too so no worries about wasting cash if you dont like it

It came along at just the right time for me too. Most fun i had with a strategy game.

Loads of deals on Steam at the moment - I used to play the X-COM series a good fifteen years ago and have just brought them all for £3! Linky.

Steams offers are lethal signed on other day just to play bit of CS and ended up getting portal 2 for a fiver . does anyone know if people still play age of empires 1and2 online? And on the age of empires 3 don't waste your money.... After the first 2 it's a massive disappointment

Minecraft? It's main part is strategy, in the fact you have to build you home/ land and live with the relevant materials you mine. You have to be back by night or be aware that 'monsters' are after you.

Yeah, Age 3 does look a disappointment. Think I may go back and try Medieval Total War 2 again as I got quite far until my empire crumbled around me
