PDK catapults the C2S to 60mph quicker than the 4.0RS. Only a second in it to 125mph. The RS only comes into it's own above 125mph.

What with the lap times and capabilities of the all-new 911, i think we are in for some exciting things from Porsche over the next few years with this 991 scratchchin

Looks like they are trying to make the 991 look better than it really is... the 4.0 is launched at 2k revs, whilst the 991 gets a full fat 6k+... surely the 4.0 will take more revs than that off the line?

The 4.0 sounds utterly glorious!

EDIT.. Something's definitely not right with that video

I got 3.8s to 60mph from a V-box in my 997.2 GT3. A 4.0 gets 4.1s launching from 2k rpm? I smell fish...

0-100mph in about 8s for the 991 C2S is pretty darn quick.

Probably best to stick with the RS 4.0 you currently have, especially if they're worth £250k now and will probably rise further eh.....scratchchin

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good car, but not a great car. There was always going to be a time when the line would be crossed between driving fun and just plain boring.

It is was my 100k, and it will not be, I would be up for a 997 GTS, In my view the 997 GTS, is the penultimate best 911 ever made.

Having evaluated my experience in a 997tt Tip for 3 years and 36k miles along with approx 30 track days in that time, in addition to a Turbo S up until last month and 20k miles,

Within half a mile it was an easy decision, that 991 is not for me……It will be interesting to see how many 997 owners convert into an order once they have driven the car.

I expect the 991 tt will be a different story

go drive a 997 GTS, I did and you can see by me not owning one it was a bit dull.
911's are a strange car now imo, it's a GT car which has to be made into a Track car becasue it's a 911.
I would take a V8 Vantage over a 997 GTS no question.

Now the 991 is longer and the engine is not so far back it's getting more like a Cayman lol.

the 911 is dead long live the Cayman as Porsche new sports car.

as for the next GT3 well that will be a strange one, for me it's just getting to big to be a great British B road classic.

let's keep the 911 as Porsche new GT car and put a 3.8 lump in the Cayman.

May i ask you how long and in which conditions you test drove the car Apolo1. According to the various articles the car seems to have a dual personality. Did you have a chance to push it? Also interesting to see the perspective of a GT3 owner. Was frankly surprised that C. Harris was so positive in the last GTPorsche...

Firstly my views on the 997 GTS, are also in line with an F1 and Le man champ.

991 both wet and dry conditions. Don’t get me wrong it’s a very good GT car.

Different strokes for different folks. For example to me the TTRS is a dull car but I can understand why people might choose one; their taste is different to mine and that's fine. The Cayman isn't half as interesting to drive as a 911. Yes it's more accessible and it might even be "better" but it's not as challenging to drive as my car and my 911 feels a wile lot more special than a Cayman. The GTS is a fantastic road car that won't embarrass you on track and it had loads of feel (for a modern car). There's no way that I'd trade my car for a Cayman no matter how good (although i might gave ine as well). Next gen GT3 however? Who knows?

In my experience there is enough salts’ in the initial press release of some manufactures, to turn the Utah flats dry, In particular one magazine whose reporters appear to live in an alternate universe

Albeit, I have a lot of respect for CH, in particular his views on the MP4 12C, bang on the money.

Interestingly……. I know of 4, to date….. 997 owners who will not be converting into a 991.We are awaiting the 991 Turbo.

Whilst I agree with the above.

Every one to there own…….I know that when the lads, at Woking were evaluating the opposition, as it were. That the Cayman came our rather well………

fair enough. i have to say the GTS chassis was an excellent compromise when i test drove it recently but i could not get used to that PDK thing. Just the thought that the 991 seems to be better with pdk than manual puts me off. For me a Porsche needs to be thrilling to drive.... You need to be looking forward to driving it when you get close... You need to want to go out early in the morning just to drive around with it. Not sure a GTS or for that matter a 991 would achieve this. If someone needs a GT then get a nice car with a proper boot. I am perhaps too extreme but there is not too much in the current Porsche range that gets you there, besides a gt3. Or a classic but this is another debate...

Lol…. no not driven every one, owned a several 2.7rs, 93- 964 touring one of 7 RHDs, owned all of the turbos, from 78 onwards, Martinis, flat noses, LEs .I have raced a SCRS in Oman a few years back.

An intresting car comes to mind,In 96, I had a 94 ,993 C2S, built for the German ambassador , RHD. The invoice price was 108k back then. It had the sum of all parts, Blue print RS engine over 400BHP, close ratio box, used to rev and sound like a Ducati ,All of the suspension components were bespoke motor sports items, Closest thing to my 4.0 I have ever driven.

I am now away for a few weeks, Happy xmas and good luck to every one in 12.
