Is the head gasket gone on my vauxhall omega 2.5 v6 elite

my car temp gauge getting very high after 10 mins of driving and there seems to be oil in the coolant bottle the car could be sitting for 6 to 8 hours after being drove and the engine is still quite hot... is this head gasket or what could it be

any comments would be most appreciated

oil cooler sitting in the vee is the most likely cause of your hassle

Also check the water pumps, some plastic blades, which fall off and can cause overheating issues.

Overheating + oil in water = yep, unless it's an auto where a heat exchanged in the rad has bust.

it is an automatic is it worth fixing or not?????

Check to see if there is an autobox cooler in the radiator.
Look for a couple of smaller hoses as well as the approx 3 larger water hoses.

It may be that the autobox cooler is leaking into the water, and a new rad and autobox fluid change should sort it, if that is the leak.

Other stuff to do is look for lots of white mayonaise type stuff on the dipstick and oil filler cap.

A small amount is normal from condensation, but anything more than a jacob's cream cracker worth is bad news.

If you have got an oil cooler in the radiator, see if you can find somewhere to test it for leaks before getting a new one.

You can also smell the coolant tank, if it smells like exhaust gasses, then the gasket is gone (or for that matter, a cracked head)

If it looks like you do have head problems, weigh up the costs of an engine swap. It may work out cheaper than a gasket change, and most likely cheaper than a head swap if the head is cracked.

My money is on the oil cooler having failed. It sits in the 'V' of the engine and is the first thing to look at when you get oil in the coolant.
