I have been offered a 2001 4.5L

18000 miles
Second owner.
Serviced ten miles ago.
Less than 2000 miles covered in the last six years.
Condition allegedly minty fresh.
The guy who owns it is a customer or mine.
Paid Twenty thousand for it five years ago.
He has no idea what it is worth.

Now I will have it idependantley inspected but I need to start with an idea of it's value as the current owner has no idea either.

I will post pictures as soon as I receive them from him as it's in a dry store.

Any help greatly recieved

I would have a look on classifieds on here that will help you out the most. Very hard for to value the car with out looking round it. seeing if the chassis is crunchy or not the interior is mint. And if it runs well and so on......

As you will see on classifieds they can range from 7-8K private up to dealer mint cars at the 20k mark.

I have a similar car and was offered £20k for it last year. I told them it wasn't for sale. Prices vary a lot and so does condition and the right car is worth paying for I reckon.

I have been through all the classifieds, fleebay and the Trader.
Prices vary so wildly it's hard to get a solid price.

The more I see the more I get an overview of the Market.

I have yet to see one of this age though which makes it hard.

Any recommendations for an independent inspector?

If you assumed average condition for age and mileage and in a desirable colour (ie blue with beige), I'd put it at around 16-17ish. The only concern would be lack of miles in the last few years and potential pitfall that those years may have been left outside and the rust and rot have set in.
There's a lot of variables in that valuation though
Get it checked over by a specialist and I'm sure they'd give you a fair market estimate

Thanks for all the information.
I will endeavour to keep the forum updated if a deal can be done.

Are there any specific specialists to give me a reliable pre purchase check?

I don't want to use the AA or RAC I find their reports too ambiguous covering themselves rather than giving a fair impression of the mechanics of the car.

Not connected and no experience but seems to be well recommended in these parts, and he is local!

That's encouraging. I bought my 2001, 450 with 20k on the clock, light interior and a desirable iris metallic blue for 13,500 and bought through a very respectable dealer 2 years ago. With 27k on the clock now I would still expect to at least get my money back.

I used Rob for my car and he did a good job. By the way my early 2001 ( non-covered headlamps ) 450 with 28K cost 12,500, a month ago, I hope this helps

I paid £15k for a late 98 500, imperial blue, PAS, 2nd owner, 26k miles, FSH - and that was back in the price spike/peak of end May '11. In retrospect I should've paid less.

The car you're talking about may be newer, but mine is a 500 (1 of only 600 odd), both mine and "yours" are similar mileage (for 10+ years old).

If you take Fernhurst prices out of the equation (good luck to them !) I reckon the last poster is on the money at £12500'ish.

If it is full MK3 spec then maybe £14k

Yes it really does.
I think that's the sort of money I wanted to pay.
I'm not into twenty odd.
I will use Rob if he is available.

There was a very nice blue 2001 4.5 that went for a bit under £12k up here recently it had 40k on the clock.

All good news.
I am keeping as many adverts as possible to build a Market value as I don't want to upset the guy.
His order is fifty thousand so need to keep him happy.

Maybe. Good job she's a keeper!
Mine is the last of the Mk2'2, but as previously mentioned above, as less than 100 cars received the mk3 'extras' these cars would definitely attract a couple of £000 premium. Maybe owners should re-badge them as the Chimaera LE and slap an extra £10k on the asking price like the Griff LE!

Is there somewhere I can see the specification differences and options available in the last incarnation of the Chim?
