Been searching through the classifieds, looking at DBS's ... Annoyingly very few adverts say whether they are a 2 seater only, or a 2+2 and not many have pictures of rear compartment either ... but I've just been looking at the pictures of the rear compartment on a 2+0 got me thinking if fitting a child's car seat in the back of a 2+0 car is possible as without the rear cushion squabs and backrests there would be more space .... or is it a silly idea?

I am assuming as part of the BIW, that the isofix anchor points and seat belt anchor points are on every car regardless of if it's a 2+2 or a 2+0 .... So it should be safe and feasible.

1. Does anyone know if this would/could work?

2. With it being registered as a 2 seater car, would it need to be checked over by anywhere to confirm its safe (MOT Garage?, SVA?) before using it with child in the back?

Thanks

I drove a 2+0 a few weeks ago in Wilmslow and do you know what...I never even thought to check if there were seat belts in the back !!

IF SO, and combined with Mr Isofix, I see no reason to dispute the legality of your intentions smile

I have 2+2 and there is no isofix in the back, I am not even sure a child (baby) seat would fit as they are narrow and sunken...having said that my 7 year old fits in the back perfect with seat belt fitting at the right hight and across waist. Main reason I got the 2+2 was so my daughter could come out en famille....that said by the time she is 10 think she won't fit.

In a 2+0 there are no seatbelts in the rear

Also as they are a 'pod' as such behind the seats you wont be able to fit a childseat in them as they have a riased front edge ..so perfect for a small child to sit in for short journeys but thats your risk.... not sure about a 2+2 as not seen one as never really wanted rear seats but have had my son in the back of a 2+0 occasionally not rec for long journeys or really for safety ....

This subject has been done before try searching the archives , i asked a similar question . Back seats only became an option on 2010 models onwards , all early cars were 2+0 so only option on the early cars is to get works service to retro fit at about 7k. There is only very few car seats that fit , and even then its very tight and the passenger seat has to be virtually all the way forward , a passenger much over 5'7 is struggling. Britax duo plus fits best out of the seats i tried and again its tight . I bought mine anyway and so far all is going really sweet.

I know there won't be seatbelts in the back of 2+0, and if the anchors are there they'll be covered in trim, but I have an ex-Aston Trimmer who works for, so thought with a few minor mods and the purchase of a rear seat belt set, it may be possible.

If the 2+2 wasn't an option until 2010 and there are no isofix points on the chassis, it may not even be possible.

I have a DBS with works retro fit seats which does cost about £7 k inclusive of vat . How old is your child ? If they are 4 years plus you might be better not bothering with a child seat and fitting them straight into the seat . Porsche do a seat that fits in the 911 that you can take the back off and use like a small boaster seat .there are no seat belts in a 2 plus 0 car .given that 2 plus 2 will soon be under £110 k might be better buying a newer car ?
