average speeds?

Is it just me, or does everyone seem to be doing somewhere between 40/50mph in a 60mph limit, i have been getting a lot of people doing this to me and it really bugs me...... The other thing that bugs me about these people is the fact that they dont slow down to 30 and carry on doing 40/50.

Look out for these people when they are coming the other way. They have a funny glazed over look about them. They simply aren't paying attention to the road at all, not planning ahead and driving purely reactively. I tend to keep my distance until I get a safe overtaking opportunity.
Unless they are trying an economy run whilst trying to get there quickly, thereby going slower than 60 in nsl's but going faster than 30 so as to keep a reasonably high average speed on their run whilst getting good economy. In that case you have to anticipate well so they should be looking further ahead than most. I've tried it early in the morning a couple of times when there's not much on the roads allowing me to get good average speeds but good economy also.

They're not that clever, they are just mono speeding.They can be very scary these odd half speed folk, following all on 60 limit rural roads .... stunned expressions when you pass them on a straight road at 50mph & often suddenly speeding up when you start your overtaking manoeuvre .... failing to change down a gear on steep hills slowing from 40mph to 10mph (or less) with me behind foot off gas & rear occupants of car staring back as if I was doing something wrong .... attempting to overtake 1mph faster than car in front not going above 45mph .... zig zagging left & right .... slowing down to drive up middle of road on short bridges (bridges 2 trucks could pass easily) .... then there the ones on phone ....... ones that overtake without bothering to wait for a straight bit of road

My daily commute is plagued by these people. Usually it's a Hyundai i10 or similar driven by someone who is paying 1% attention to the act of driving. It amazes me that these people can potter along at 41mph with a stream of 30 cars behind without a care in the world. They are either selfish or not confident enough to control a car at higher speeds - neither should be on the road.
Run into these people all the time on a nice B road I use to get into town, usually just before we get to the good bit as well and they slow down even further.
Was also stuck behind one the other day doing 40mph on a nice and open single carriageway. Do they not get embarrassed when they check their mirrors and see a huge queue of cars
stretching into the distance behind them yet there's miles of empty road in front of them?

In Germany when this happens a quick flash of the lights from the car behind indicates that they wish to pass. The car ahead pulls over or shows some sign of acknowledgement and the car behind overtakes. all very civil and polite.
