"but during our debriefing at the top of the mountain, everybody was raving about the 911. It spoiled us with instant feedback, 3D responses and a crystal-clear dialogue between car and driver. Its talents go deeper, spread wider and last longer than ever before: the 991 is more economical, more refined and more comfortable, while simultaneously feeling more composed and more exploitable on the limit. It's more like an old mate than a fail-safe, high precision tool. More importantly still, the 991 is again a proper, died-in-the-wool 911."
"the Porsche 911 snatches the trophy away from the Nissan GT-R. It's the best sports car that money can buy."
Killer price. Killer 911. The 991 moves the game on."the Porsche 911 snatches the trophy away from the Nissan GT-R. It's the best sports car that money can buy."

Having now driven the 991 , I am not at all surprised that its is in need of some BS
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good car, but not a great car. There was always going to be a time when the line would be crossed between driving fun and just plain boring.
It is was my 100k, and it will not be, I would be up for a 997 GTS, In my view the 997 GTS, is the penultimate best 911 ever made.

I'm pleased the 911 won, but to be fair and balanced perhaps you should quote the following....
"the GT-R is just on another planet in terms of performance" and "destroyed the 911"........
The M3 and R8 hardly got a look in. Great article.
GTR has 150hp more than the 991 so hardly a suprise that it monsters it for pace. For most people spending 100k on a 991, I doubt the GTR is even in the frame. "the GT-R is just on another planet in terms of performance" and "destroyed the 911"........

king hate this new 991. WTF is it so good.
Drive it and find out... I wouldn't swap my 997.1 RS for one but it IS unbelievably good... Roll on 2013/14 for Turbo/GT variants.

Criticism is often justified. Praise can be a function of commercial pressures from manufacturers, journos who lack the right sensitivity for assessing special cars and sometimes the emperor's new clothes syndrome.
Not saying the 991 is not brilliant, mind. I just suspect it will not be my personal cup of tea.

Not a big deal. I would never spend 80k on a Nissan. 40k, maybe, but 80k? No thanks."the GT-R is just on another planet in terms of performance" and "destroyed the 911"........

911 vs R8 is the closest comparison: and in that one, the R8 looks meagre.
Until porsche start making new bespoke models with very limited production numbers i just cant get interested. I dont really care how good or bad the 991 is because i want to be driving something unique, rare and very very special... not something that is churned out in an order of magnitude of something like 250 uits a day and depreciates faster than a poverty spec Mondeo.
More carerra GTs please but at different pricepoints.

Your wish has been granted - pop into your local OPC and ask to order a 918 Spyder.More carerra GTs please but at different pricepoints.
the 2012 GTR is a fabulous car. the new price actually represents its capability, badge not withstanding.
they have continuously improved the car. Just don't expect to track it
For a daily driver, which is what the new 991 s is, I would still think that it is in a higher performance league

Hmm, I suspect as a new proposition you're right - But in October I was looking around for my next drive and I did look at the 997 GT3.1 Vs '09 GTR. So on the second hand market people will be looking at different years, but the bloodline still needs inspection.SonnyM said:
