I am in need of some advice. The coypu that have settled around my small lakes are starting to be a nuisance. I have bought some traps but I am wondering what to use as bait. I have tried various fruits, bread etc., but no luck as yet.

Has anyone experience of getting rid of coypu?

Traps and / or a .22 rifle. They're pretty easy to get rid of by all accounts.

I wanted PHers to tell me. Google is a bit of a cheat.

Are they native to the UK or were they introduced at some time in the past? They sound Soouth American.

That may have been capybara, which without resorting Google is a sort of cross between a beaver and a tapir... biggest rodent I think.

Coypu - North America?

I don't have a fire arms license, so I am trying to catch them with fox traps. Just trying to find out what to use as bait to get them to run through the traps.
I have the traps placed in their usual runways, but so far not caught one. Probably doing something wrong, don't know what though.

Like a small beaver, but with a round tail. Not part of the 'rat family'.

No idea, all I know is that they are residing on the sides of my lakes. They are getting the dogs pretty exited, but do fight back when they come too close.

That sounds like a good idea. I haven't tried that yet. I'll drop some carrots in the cages.
