Im presuming that like mine (150pc bought a couple of years ago), most of the best sized sockets were 3/8th and that the 1/2" drive sockets were all well over 20mm?

No all sockets 1/2" smallest being 10mm

Result then. My big set had an excellent 1/2" drive with no useful 1/2" sockets and all of the useful sizes in the 3/8th section. I bought a set of 1/2" metric for about £12 using my trade card, which made the set about 2x as useful.
